Here's What We Do Better

PRODUCTION

Simply Oak wood floors are not just any wood floors. The rough-sawn timbers must first pass our strict selection procedures. We work with a trustworthy European sawmill that use wood harvested only from sustainable forestry projects. The rough-sawn wood is checked for size, grading and quality before being further processed. Seeing is believing, which is why we regularly visit the sawmill to ensure that our standards are followed precisely.

Moisture content very much determines the stability of a wooden floor.

At Simply Oak, we only use state-of-the-art drying kilns, operated by highly skilled staff. This ensures our wood always has the optimum moisture content for installation in any country. After the drying process, the wood is calibrated, graded, and sized before going into storage in our climate-controlled warehouse. This wood will later be profiled into solid boards or top layers for engineered floors.

PRODUCTION

Once a perfect solid or engineered board has been produced by our state-of-the-art machines, it is time for the surface and color finish. This may be carried out by machine or, in many cases, by hand.

Various natural coloring processes are used to achieve our beautiful color range. During each production stage, several quality-control checks are carried out. After air drying of the oiled finish, a final quality check is carried out by skilled staff before the floor boards are packed. Packaging is chosen depending upon the transport method. Whether by road, sea, or air, your floor should arrive in perfect condition.

Sustainability

Simply Oak sources beautiful, high-quality timber grown from sustainably managed forests that are FSC® and PEFC™ certified. Forests certified by the Forest Stewardship Council or the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification adhere to responsible forest management principles that reflect our company’s standards.

We also ensure that our floors are produced in an ecological and energy efficient manner. Our craftspeople use solvent-free, water-based, natural finishes that comply with current environmental law.

The energy required for production is generated by clean timber waste from the milling process itself. Our sawmill became energy independent by opening its own bio-power plant in 1997. Launched by Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands, the plant was first of its kind in the Benelux nations. Because the mill’s electricity demand is lower than what the power plant generates daily, the surplus energy is pumped back into The Netherlands’ national grid. This amounts to approximately 1,300 kW per hour, enough to continuously supply 3,500 local households with 100% Green Electricity.

Storage, drying, profiling, oiling, and packaging are all done in one location. This reduces energy consumption and transportation costs.

SUSTAINABILITY

Our founder, Victoria Player,  started a change.org petition to keep Miami Beach clean and she’s on the news. Watch it here.

“I spend so much time in the ocean snorkeling, kayaking, paddle boarding, diving, and when you see the destruction to the wildlife out there that have ingested trash, I mean, it’s suicide for the animals. It’s a death sentence. I’d say, for the last nine years, I have been coming to the beach every morning to walk, watch the sunrise and pick up trash.”
