Easy Projects to Help Your Home Sell Quickly – written by Tina Martin

If you’re planning on selling your home quickly, there are a few easy projects you can complete to make the sale even easier. You don’t have to remodel your home entirely to boost its appeal. Sometimes, you just need to do a little freshening up with a new mailbox and some chic wallpaper.

Here are a few easy projects you can complete to help get your home sold.

Clean and declutter

Before you even put your home on the market, you should clean it from the floorboards to the ceiling. Buyers will turn away from homes that are covered in dust or grime. Clean all appliances, including the refrigerator and the stove. Scrub the bathrooms, vacuum every room, and give windows a new sparkle.

The Balance notes that you should remove personal property, including anything that you’re planning on trashing. When buyers look at homes, they want to be able to see themselves living there, so they will be thrown off by photographs of your dog or your child’s drawing on the refrigerator. If you have extra items or clothing that you don’t need or want, consider donating to a local thrift store instead of throwing them away. Decluttering the home will not only remove your personal stamp on the home, but it will also make the house feel more spacious — a plus when you’re trying to sell.

Take a look at your walls

Freshening up your home’s walls can really make the property stand out, and it doesn’t take a whole lot of work. If you notice any holes or blemishes in your walls, get out some spackling and repair them. To really boost your home’s marketability, add to the decor with wallpaper. Wallpaper is much more durable than paint and it will automatically give your home a facelift. Opt for the stick-on variety that’s easy to install. If you make a mistake while applying the wallpaper, it’s easy to fix, too.

There are countless designs to choose from these days, but keep in mind that HGTV recommends using a neutral palette throughout your home. Like decluttering, this helps buyers see themselves in the neutral space. Neutral wallpaper will also fit with more kinds of furniture. Choose light colors like beige, white, taupe, warm gray, and pale blue.

Make curb appeal pop

The outside of your home is the first thing buyers will see. If something about it throws them off, you’ll lose a potential sale. Conversely, if your home looks good, this will attract more buyers. Photos of the front of the home will be displayed on the listing, but you should also make sure to spruce up the curb appeal in the backyard in case they decide to walk around the home before being shown the inside.

Make sure the grass is green and kept trimmed. Add new flowers; brightly colored flowers will stand out to buyers and make them take a second look, as well as give the home a more cheery feel. Trim tree branches so they can see the house from the road. Get a new mailbox or give yours a makeover. Clean your gutters and maybe even get some new house numbers. Adding lights will help anyone who drives by at night see the house better, as well.

Market your home

Be sure to consult your realtor on the best techniques to market your home to buyers. If you’re choosing to sell your house on your own, have a real estate photographer take professional-quality photos of your home. You can save by using a free website builder to create your own website. You can also utilize a free banner generator to design a banner for your site which keeps potential buyers up-to-date with any announcements or open house info. Just choose a template and customize it by adding your own font, colors, and copy.

Tackling a few of these projects will make your home stand out on the market and could help it sell faster. Adding more cosmetic appeal will give your home a better chance of being noticed.
